Gerard P. Tertychny,Ed.D.
COL (ret) Gerry Tertychny graduated from Virginia Military Institute with a Bachelor of Arts in History (1987). He holds master’s degrees from California State University and the US Army War College. He holds a Doctor of Education from George Washington University. He has served as Commadant of Cadets at Valley Forge Military Academy and College, Adjunct Professor of Military History at Norfolk State University and Senior Army ROTC Instructor at Bethel High School.
Gerry will speak to us on the Battles of Brandywine and Saratoga; pivotal engagements in the American Revolutionary War, fought in 1777. They resulted in a decisive American victory, which significantly influenced the war’s outcome by securing French support for the American cause. The first battle, at Freeman’s Farm, took place on September 19, 1777, and the second battle, at Bemis Heights, occurred October 7, 1777. These victories were crucial in rallying American morale and alliances against the British.
The Battle of Brandywine, fought September 11, 1777, was a significant conflict in the War of the Revolution, where merican forces, led by George Washington, achieved a tactical victory over the British forces, commanded by William Howe. This battle was pivotal in reviving American strength and morale, contributing to the overall success of the American Revolutionary War.
