COL (ret) John House
The Battle of Horseshoe Bend
The Battle of Horseshoe Bend was fought during the War of 1812 in the Mississippi Territory (central Alabama). On March 27, 1814, United States forces and Native American allies under Major General Andrew Jackson defeated the Red Sticks, part of the Creek Indian tribe who opposed American expansion, effectively ending the Creek War.
Colonel (Ret.) John House spent his life in service — first to his country, and later to the city he calls home. After a distinguished 26-year career in the U.S. Army, including deployments and high-level leadership roles, House turned his focus to public service in Columbus, Georgia. House served two terms as a City Councilor before resigning in April 2023. He brought a mission-focused mindset to local government, championing transparency, accountability, and strategic budgeting practices. He consistently advocates for veterans, mentors young professionals, and supported organizations working to improve quality of life in the Chattahoochee Valley. A longtime member of the Coweta Fall SAR, he has recently returned to the Columbus area.
